The Players present a rare opportunity to see this seldom produced American masterpiece. The most introspective of Arthur Miller's plays, After the Fall probes deeply into the fast-moving, passive psyche of Quentin, a man who ruthlessly revisits his past to explain the catastrophe that is his life. His journey backward takes him through a troubled upbringing, the bitter death of his mother, and a series of failed relationships, including one with a famous singer troubled by an addiction to sleeping pills and alcohol — and his current skittish one with a German woman, who assisted a group of German officers in their attempt to assassinate Hitler. Many attribute the relationship between Quentin and Maggie in the play to be a reflection of his brief but turbulent marriage to the famous Marilyn Monroe: "All I can see now is the power she offered me...Yes! It's all so clear--the honor! The first honor was that I hadn't tried to go to bed with her! She took it for a tribute to her "value," and I was only afraid!"
Our last Arthur Miller production, The Crucible, is remembered as one of the most gripping and emotional pieces that The Players have presented. Join us as we once again bring the power of Mr. Miller to our stage.
